We all look for and seek out meaning in life. We want our work to make a difference and our relationships to lead to positive experiences. We want to have purpose.
Importantly, life is about experiences.
Finally, life can not be about selling your most precious commodity. Time.
Live An Empty Life and It Could Cost Your Life
A life void of purpose leads to dis-satisfaction and dis-comfort.
Further, when these warnings are ignored, the cause can lead to physical manifestations. Or dis-ease.
Ikigai
The Japanese call this reason for being, this purpose combined with motivation, Ikigai. In fact, Ikigai is known to be the secret to a long and happy life.
Finding Your Purpose
Five steps to begin to understand and find your unique purpose:
1. Reflect on your values and interests:
Take some time to reflect on your values and interests. What are the things that are most important to you? What activities do you enjoy? This will help you identify potential areas of interest that could be a good fit for your career.
2. Explore different options:
Do not be afraid to try out different career options to see what resonates with you. This could involve internships, part-time jobs, training, or volunteer work.
3. Seek out mentors and role models:
Find people who are doing work that you find inspiring and ask them about their career journey. This can help you gain insight and perspective on different career paths.
4. Find ways to incorporate your passions into your current job:
If you are currently in a job that does not align with your passions, try to find ways to incorporate your passions into your work. This could involve taking on additional projects or finding ways to align your work with your values. It may also mean making more meaningful change.
5. Keep an open mind:
Be open to new opportunities and be willing to try out different career paths. Remember that it is okay to change course if you find that a particular career path is not a good fit for you.
