Does our education system prepare creative individuals to create solutions? Or think logically through problems.
Do our companies truly innovate for the good of all? Or rebrand the next steps in the predetermined script.
Do our governments envision a better future for us all? Or hypnotize the masses while helping themselves.
Creative Individuals
Allow us to see a world that does not yet exist. We are in need of creative solutions and visionary people.
A 2011 study Uncorking The Muse: Alcohol intoxication facilitates creative problem solving supported the assumption that alcohol provides a benefit to creative processes. This study showed that intoxicated individuals solved more problems in a shorter time when compared to sober individuals and intoxicated individuals were more likely to rate their solutions as insightful.
Does alcohol make an individual more creative or simply remove judgement, inhibitions and barriers that prevent individuals from accessing and expressing creative solutions?
Analyze, Follow Rules, Conform
We are trained in our current society to approach things analytically, to follow rules and conform. These drivers limit creativity and creative expression.
Nevertheless, to release your creative potential, you will need to train yourself to get past these barriers.
And so, shut down that internal judge, create a safe place to forget the rules and see what insights your mind uncovers. Set aside time each day for your favourite creative endeavor, whether writing, painting, singing, orating or capturing images of our world. Make it a habit.
Make It A Habit
And as you begin to build confidence in your ideas share them.
Sharing may be the hardest part for creative people. As you develop your conceptual abilities and works the more your concepts differ from the current accepted norm the less likely they are to be broadly understood or accepted.
You could end up envisioning and articulating something that is advanced and difficult for the rule followers of this world to understand. Their preferred way of dealing with this will be to pass judgement on you, the creative individual, who is obviously (in their minds) too different.
And yet, ironically, an advanced creative solution is the best possible future for these zombies. They are not able to see it or understand it for themselves consciously. In some cases, your work may speak to others deeply in a sub-conscious manner. Insight planted as a seed that will germinate and develop into something beneficial.
You As A Creative Individual
May be left feeling very alone. In 5-years you may look back and see that this popular new trend in society started with your glimpse of insight. With your vision.
There is a strong likelihood that others will take your idea and sell it as their own.
If you happen to be the creative problem solver at work you may even encounter a boss that takes your ideas. Then, takes all credit for the solution and turns to you when they can not solve their next problem. Now, demanding you do it for them!
We all need some form of income in this world. Word to the wise, do not sell your soul.
Labelled?
This may be why creative people are often labelled introverts. Introvert can also mean lone wolf, maverick, nonconformist, individual. Possibly even rebel.
These are the people our world needs today and if you are one find the strength to express your ideas for others to see so they might learn from your insight. Of course, how you deliver your insight matters.
A lone wolf, maverick, nonconformist or individual when presented with a political or social dilemma combined with their creative solution and driven by honest expression creates an activist.
No one likes an activist. They are hard to deal with, perceived as high conflict and labelled negatively.
The World Needs These People Too
And, if we take the time to filter through the message they are attempting to deliver, our eyes may be opened to a world we did not see.
This is why our world continues to marvel over the works of Leonardo da Vinci. We still strive to interpret the message he intended to deliver in some of his works. When alive he stood out as a unique individual, as many highly creative individuals have through history.
The challenge for you as a creative individual, is to do what you are driven to do, to share it, to continue when others do not grasp your vision and above all maintain curiosity in your endeavors as you sense the world around you and accumulate knowledge. Someday, someone may thank you and reward you. But this is not why you create is it?
